Certificate Of Deposit Old

Question: I found an old stock certificate. How do I find how much it’s worth today?
In a savings deposit box I was recently informed about, there was a stock certificate from 1983 for 25 shares of “GLEN” (formerly Glendale Federal Bank). It looks like Glendale has gone through a number of mergers/acquisitions. I’m not sure who the main company is today – it’s so confusing. Is it worth zero now or can I retire?
Thank you, in advance, for any help/direction you may be able to provide!
Answer: Neither. It’s not worth enough for you to retire on, but it’s not worthless either. Basically, you own shares now in Citigroup. Contact them at:
Citigroup Shareholder Relations
P. O. Box 990041
Hartford, CT 06199-0041
Ask them how many shares of Citigroup stock (C) your GLEN shares are worth.

Money Market Accounts Bank Of America

Question: What is one of the best Money Market checking/savings accounts with the highest interest yield?
I currently bank of Bank of America. I am disappointed in their low interest rates and am thinking of switching to a brokerage or mutual fund firm that handles checking and savings accounts as well as retirement funds. Can anyone recommend one that yields a decent rate of return with low fees? I’m also thinking of possibly linking a Capital One 5% Money Market savings account to my existing accounts. Does that make sense to do?
Answer: I was considering ING Direct, CapitalOne and HSBC online account. I am going with CapitalOne because I have a company credit card with them and love their service so far so I am looking to build a deeper relationship with them.
Getting more than 5.5% in the US is hard on these kinds of accounts but atleast that is better than the pittance most banks give.
